With the accuracy attained from practice and quality equipment of the modern traditional bows I no longer see much difference in using a crossbow. You still need to get use to both. Still much better than expensive ammunition and all the loudness of rifles. Who can even afford to shoot practice $$$s of shots.

I have a 42 target archery range all 42 targets are made from plastic feed bag stuffed with shrink wrap, which the local stores are happy to have me haul away. Pack the shrink wrap as tight as you can into the bag, tie it off and hang in on a couple of sticks, walla, a 3d target about the size of a deer body. photos available on request.

Actually the cheapest and best that I can do is stuffing double thickness burlap bags crammed and I do mean crammed with nylon screening scraps obtained from your local hardware store that repairs window screening. I have built a number of these for my friends, just make sure that the double bag is absolutely crammed to the fullest. My eighty pound compound never has penetrated even half way through the target.

I think using a crossbow in conjunction with a traditional bow is a good idea. Just like it's always good to have more than one tool in your tool chest. A crossbow is great for beginners and those that can't pull a draw string and hold it. Downside on a crossbow is you need to be closer to the target, but that's the thrill and challenge.

I concur. I started off as a gun hunter, but after discovering bow hunting, I became an addict too. I still gun hunt, but I don't feel the same level of satisfaction from harvesting a deer via a gun as a do from a bow.

Great idea. Stealth is the key. Slip into the woods quietly and see more game. I like it.
